There’s nothing better than a classic rivalry in sports, Mike Rutherford of SB Nation gives his thoughts on the Duke-UNC rivalry:

People will watch a Yankees-Red Sox game even if New York has won seven straight over Boston, and they’ll watch Ohio State and Michigan play on the gridiron even if neither team is ranked. Would the public care about Duke vs. North Carolina if the teams were bad or the games became consistently one-sided? There’s no way to know right now because the series won’t stop delivering.

The gang over at Deadspin were sent an interesting little tip from The Duke Chronicle after the Michigan/Duke game on Sunday. Apparently a few elder Duke alum that were in attendance feel as though the current Duke student body are not crushing it like they once did. Dennis and Elizabeth Chen were so unimpressed with the amount of Duke pep on the weekend that they thought a contest was in order to inspire the younger generation of Dookies.

“In an effort to take some of the burden off Coach K, we would like to sponsor the airfare and cost of admission for the most passionate Duke student to attend the rest of the Duke Men’s NCAA tournament games and be a “rally captain” to lead the Crazies in 40 minutes of cheering to try and give our Blue Devils a “home court” advantage away from Cameron. To be considered, post a short 1-minute video to YouTube pleading your case…”

Oh yea, I like this idea. What makes the Chen’s the superfan police anyway? Just sayin’.
